MASSAGE
§
Shiatsu
Evolved in
Japan, Shiatsu has its origins in Chinese medicine, which is
based on the principles of energy flows through meridians in
the body. Applying pressure along these meridians (fingers,
elbows, feet etc) results in restoration of energy flows and
the promotion of harmony and maintenance of good health.
Usually performed through clothes and coupled with a light
stretching technique.
§ Remedial
Using different types of application (stroking, kneading,
squeezing, friction, rocking, shaking, percussion etc.)
remedial massage is usually focused on specific problems of
musculoskeletal area.
The Practitioner’s movements are quite firm and deep with
the aim of unlocking the problem, bringing about better
circulation and nourishment to the area of attention and
generally having a relaxing effect on the patient.
§
Swedish
Swedish massage is a very gentle type of massage which
gives a feel of soothing flow and soft pressure on the
bodily tissues.
It is good for first time recipients not very familiar
with massage techniques in general, or for those who just
want tranquil relaxation and nurturing touch rather than
deeper musculoskeletal manipulation.
§ Sports
Sport massage uses specific massage techniques for
enhancing performance or inhibiting injury in sport. By
stimulating blood circulation, waste materials and possibly
some micro trauma in the muscles, are more quickly and
completely removed.
Fresh blood supply drains away fatigue, relieves swelling,
reduces muscle tension, promotes flexibility and helps in
prevention of further injuries.
§
Chinese
(Tui Na)
Is an important component in Traditional Chinese Medicine
and is one of the four main branches alongside Chinese
herbal medicine, acupuncture and Qi Gong. It is used to
treat specific illnesses of internal nature as well as
musculoskeletal ailments.
Different system co-exists including ‘pushing and grasping
and ‘pressing and rubbing’. They are traditionally performed
through clothes and could be gentle and slow, or strong and
vigorous.
§
Deep
Tissue
Focused on the deeper layers of
muscle
tissue deep tissue massage aims to release the chronic
patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and
deep pressure on the contacted areas, either following or
going across the fibres of the muscles, tendons and facia.
Concentrates on more specific areas and helps to break up
and eliminate scar tissue. Deep tissue massage may cause
some soreness during or right after the treatment but if the
massage is done correctly you should feel better than ever
within a day or two.
§ Reflexology
Reflexology is based on the belief that there are reflex
areas on the feet corresponding to all the parts of the body
including major
organs. It is believed that applying pressure to specific areas on
the feet, hands and ears can affect internal organs and body
systems, and therefore promote good health.
Stimulation of extensive nerve endings in the feet can
have profound effects through the body.
§
Pre and Post Natal (Pregnancy)
Pregnancy is a time of great, physical change for woman and
during this time massage can help a woman to continue to
enjoy and relax into her body despite its many changes. It
can reduce feelings of nausea, minimise stretch marks,
combat fluid retention and alleviate the stress and strain
on muscles and joints that result from carrying extra
weight.
During and after labour massage can ease pains and aches,
as well speed up the process of recovery especially scar
tissue. Massage can also assist in reducing fatigue at a
crucial period when mothers are bonding with the new born
baby.
A combination of Swedish, remedial and acupressure points
are applied at different stages of pregnancy, labour or post
natal period according to the specific needs of client.
§
Aromatherapy
Is the ancient science of healing, relaxing and
invigorating by the use of plants and their parts.
Aromatherapy massage is one of application methods of
essential oils (beside bath, inhalation, compresses etc.)
derived from plants.
Essential oils enter through our olfactory system and
affect the nervous system, thus improving mood which have
relaxing or energising effect on the body. This helps in
alleviating stress and speeding up healing. It is an
extremely nurturing and gentle way of establishing body,
mind and spirit equilibrium.
§
Structural
Structural massage is a
combination of different techniques applied to the body in
conjunction with the super sensory apparatuses of the
practitioner. To be able to locate the problem and put the
body back into balance the practitioner needs to:
• Feel the function of the
nervous system, lymphatic systems and Neuro-
Muscular
junction of the polarizations,
• Follow up with body
allayment and work on meridians,
• Stimulate the acupressure
points along with stretching and deep tissue
massage. After the treatment the body
starts to detoxify and all functions
start to improve. This
is an extremely powerful treatment especially for clients
with chronicle health issues.
§
Lymphatic
A Manual Lymphatic Drainage is an extremely light, slow
moving, relaxing massage treatment. It is designed to help
the body clear out the excess build up of toxins and
bacteria.
It is a type of gentle
massage
which encourages the natural circulation of the
lymph
through the
body.
The lymph system depends on peristalsis and the movement of
skeletal muscles to squeeze fluid through lymph ducts and
vessels.
MLD consists of soothing, rhythmic massaging of the skin to
stimulate the lymph nodes to open and drain. The treatment
is very comfortable and non aggressive. A typical session
will involve drainage of the neck, abdomen, trunk, and
extremities and
it is very
beneficial for a variety of aliments, such as, chronic
sinuses, edema, recurrent ear problems, arthritis, chronic
fatigue and lymphatic
dysfunction.
