Indian Head Massage
Indian
Head Massage dates back 4000 years and is based on the
ancient system of medicine known as Ayurveda, which is the
oldest Indian healing system. Ayurveda texts feature massage
and the principles of holistic (the whole body) treatment,
and suggest that health results from harmony within one's
self. The Ayurvedic approach to health is based on the
balance of mind, body and spirit. This art has now spread to
the west and is growing in popularity.
The massage works on the upper back, shoulders, neck, head
and face in a seating position to leave you in complete
harmony. Each massage will start and end with some energy
work, which entails balancing the higher chakras (throat,
third eye and crown). Chakras are centres of energy, located
about an inch away from the body. They cannot be seen, as
they are not a physical form but an energy flow. When
stressed chakras can lose their ability to synchronise
together and become imbalanced, which causes negative
energy. This build up can manifest as an emotional or
physical condition. By placing hands along the axis of the
chakras, energy can be balanced and harmony restored.
There are seven major charkas that all have different
associations and colours to represent them. The three that
are worked on in Indian Head Massage are:
Throat
This is your communication and true expression of the soul.
If there is an imbalance it can cause the inability to
express emotions and if this is bottled up it can lead to
frustration and also the inability to relax. The colour
association is sky blue.
Third eye
This is in the middle of the eyebrows on the forehead, and
is the location of memories, imagination, intuition and
understanding. If there is an imbalance it can lead to
headaches, being over-sensitive and non-assertive. The
colour association is indigo.
Crown
This is the top of the head and is the centre of
spirituality, thinking and decision making. If there is an
imbalance those affected would be afraid of opening their
mind and be unable to make decisions. The colour association
is gold.
