Counseling
Counseling is
a conversation or dialogue between the counsellor and
client, therefore the counsellor
needs certain communication skills in
order to facilitate change. The same
skills can be used in every day life for improvement of
communication or relationship, or to facilitate change
within other people.
A counselor
is someone who does not condemn us for our evasions,
mistakes or lack of skill, and believes our worth as a
person, our
capacity to tell the truth and our
strength to bare the truth, no matter what we have done up
until now. Compassion and respect toward the client are
essential qualities of a good counsellor.
These
relationships, based on deep acceptance, help to free us
from the
fantasy of being all good or all
bad, help to free us from the need to keep up appearances.
Thus, we can start to acknowledge and learn from whatever is
going on inside us. |
